Sibauma |
|
|
|
Sibauma is a little village 4 km south of Pipa. The developments in and around Pipa have had their influences in the villages nearby. Also in Sibauma the first hotels ans apartments are being built; a luxurious SPA has recently been opened. You can already see it on www.kilombovillas.com. The price of land is relatively low compared to Pipa and Tibau do Sul, which makes investments here interesting.
Lika Pipa and Tibau do Sul the coastline here is protected by the government (IDEMA) which has strict rules as to percentage of the land you can build on and the altitude of the buildings, which can only be two stories high. All of this to keep the surroundings as green and beautiful as they are. The beach in Sibauma has extra protection because of the breading of sea turtles. Buggies cannot drive on the beach like they do on other beaches on the coastline of Rio Grande do Norte.
"Projeto Tamar" is a national project for the protection of sea turtles. This year alone the project found 150 turtle nests along our beaches. These were monitored until the young turtles hatched. Considering that an adult turtle lays an average of 120 eggs, between the years 2001 and 2003 more than 40,000 baby turtles ran across the beaches of Pipa to the sea.
Although this might sound like a lot of turtles the environment is very hostile towards them. Even after 150 million years of existence they are easily caught. In fact only one or two out of every thousand survive to reach adulthood (when they can live up to 70 or 100 years).

Tibau do Sul |
|
|
|
Tibau do
Sul is the name of a village, but also of the community that for example Pipa and
Sibauma belong to. The village Tibau do Sul is growing in the tourist sector;
several new hotels and condominio are being built and the plans for a shopping
centre are also further developed. In the broadly set up infrastructure of the
village you will already find a lot of little shops, but growing tourism asks
for more. As in Pipa you will find internet bars, public transport and a very
good medical centre, which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The medical
centre is the biggest in this region and has even started some surgery.

Sossego Surfcamp in Tibau do Sul |
|
|
|
In a
formerly normal pousada, a surf and kitesurf school is now providing for surf
and kitesurfing courses including stay in Tibau. After a stay of 4 years in
Buzios, region Rio de Janeiro, Surfcamp Sossego decided to move to Tibau do
Sul. Tibau has the more quiet Lagoon Guarairas on one side and the rougher
ocean on the other side to provide service to beginners and advanced surfers.
One of the reasons of the move to Tibau was the good wind prospects and a nice
temperature during the whole year in this region.

Pipa is a village that
started to grow 10 years ago when the government put an asphalt road from Natal to
Pipa and more and more surfers came to the village to spend their spare time
and vacations there. The surfers where looking for a cheap and short stay and
found their way to the pousadas; their number increased rapidly and even now
you will find more pousadas than hotels in Pipa.
